From Data to Intent: Executable Semantics over Solid Pods

1. The Missing Layer of the Web
The Web enabled document sharing. The Semantic Web introduced structured data relationships.
However, one layer remains unresolved:
Runtime execution and intent flow are still implicit, fragmented, and platform-dependent.
APIs expose endpoints, not intent. Logs capture outcomes, not meaning.
2. Intention Space
Intention Space introduces a computation model based on:
- Intention → what is being attempted
- Pulse → minimal unit of perceived relevance
A Pulse carries:
- a name (the concern)
- a trivalence (Y / N / UN)
- a response structure (self-describing data)

This is not just data — it is contextual, structured intent.
3. Demonstration: Solid + Intention Space
This demo integrates Intention Space with Solid:
- User logs in via WebID
- Data is stored in their Pod
- A client-side CPUX engine executes intent
- Updated state is written back to the Pod
Flow:
p_todo_text → p_todo_valid → p_todo_created
Each step is a semantic state transition, not just a function call.
4. Key Observation
The system stores not just data, but the progression of intent.
This makes execution:
- replayable
- inspectable
- portable across systems
5. Why This Matters
This approach enables:
- User-owned execution state
- Replayable computation
- Platform-neutral intent representation
- Self-describing execution data
It moves computation from:
hidden runtime → explicit semantic structure
6. Alignment with Solid
Solid enables:
- decentralized data ownership
- user-controlled storage
Intention Space extends this:
from data ownership → execution ownership
Now, users can own not just their data, but the intent and evolution of their computation.
7. Closing Thought
If RDF made data relationships explicit, Intention Space explores making intent and execution explicit.
